Pre-Race Medical Questionnaire

Before applying for the race and coming on race day, please review the following medical scenarios:

  1. 1. Has your doctor ever said that you have a heart condition or high blood pressure?
  2. 2. Do you feel pain in your chest at rest, during your daily activities, or during physical activity?
  3. 3. Do you lose balance due to dizziness or have you lost consciousness in the last 12 months?
  4. 4. Have you ever been diagnosed with another chronic condition (other than heart disease or high blood pressure)?
  5. 5. Are you currently taking prescribed medications for a chronic condition?
  6. 6. Do you have a bone, joint, or soft tissue issue that could worsen with physical activity?
  7. 7. Has your doctor ever said you should only perform medically supervised physical activity?

If you answered "YES" to any of the above, consult your physician before training or participating.

Only a doctor who knows your personal health history can provide guidance for the NMDC Hyderabad Marathon 2025.

1. Pre-Race Preparation & Education

Hydration and Nutrition

  • Stay hydrated and maintain a balanced diet.
  • Know the location of hydration stations and consider carrying water.
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine before the race.

Environmental Awareness

  • Be mindful of temperature, humidity, and air quality.
  • Train in similar conditions and dress appropriately.

Health Screening

  • Get a medical check-up if you have any pre-existing conditions.
  • Obtain medical clearance to participate if needed.

2. On the Race Day

Warm-Up and Stretching

Begin the day with light jogging and dynamic stretches to prevent injury and prepare your body.

Elevation and Acclimatization

Forecasted Weather: High: 30°C | Low: 22°C

The course has rolling hills. Prepare by training with hill runs and adapting to heat and humidity.

Race Day Safety Tips

  • Fill out emergency info on your bib.
  • Provide medical history and allergies.
  • Your emergency contact should not be a fellow participant.

Listen to Your Body

Pay attention to any warning signs (e.g. dizziness, chest pain). Stop and seek medical help if needed.

Pacing

Run at a sustainable pace. If you feel unwell, stop immediately and find the nearest medical camp.

Hydration

  • Hydrate before and during the race with small, frequent sips.
  • Use electrolyte drinks especially in high heat.
  • Hydration stations are every ~2 km.
  • Track urine color and post-run weight to monitor hydration levels.

Cooling Strategies

  • Use water to splash and cool down.
  • Wet scarves or headbands help reduce body heat.

Race Course Awareness

  • Learn the course layout.
  • Identify aid stations and difficult segments.

Post-Race Recovery / Care

  1. Cool Down: Keep walking after finishing to stabilize blood flow and prevent fainting.
  2. Rehydration and Nutrition: Rehydrate and eat a balanced meal with carbs and protein.
  3. Monitor for Heat Illness: Watch for confusion, nausea, or dizziness; seek help if needed.

Emergency Protocols

Recognizing Medical Emergencies

Look for signs of heat stroke, hyponatremia, or cardiac distress. Symptoms include nausea, confusion, chest pain.

Emergency Contacts

  • Know where to find medical help on course and at the finish line.
  • Keep emergency contact info available and inform your family about your race plan.

Medical Services on Race Day

Apollo Hospitals will provide medical coverage at the venue and on the course:

  • Medical Camps at the finish line
  • On-course medical stations
  • Medical stations at start/finish
  • Equipped ambulances
  • Paramedics on bikes

Responsibilities of Every Participant

  • Decide carefully if fasting due to religious/cultural reasons.
  • Consult your physician if you have health conditions or recent illness.
  • Complete medical info on your bib number.
  • Track local weather and prepare accordingly.
  • Plan a hydration strategy in advance.
  • Seek help without hesitation if you feel unwell.
